PURPOSE: A skin whitening cosmetic composition containing S-allylcysteine is provided to suppress melanogenesis and pigmentation. CONSTITUTION: A composition for suppressing melanogenesis contains 0.0001~10 weight% of S-allylcysteine as an active ingredient. The S-allylcysteine is more than 48% of suppression rate of melanogenesis. A skin whitening cosmetic composition contains 0.0001~10 weight% of S-allylcysteine as an active ingredient. The S-allylcysteine is denoted by chemical formula 1. The skin whitening cosmetic composition is used in the form of lotion, emulsion, cream, essence, cosmetic ointment, or pack.
