PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing a compound isolated from Rumex japonicas for preventing and treating cancer is provided to effectively induce apoptosis without side effects. CONSTITUTION: An 8-O-glucose musizin of chemical formula 1 is a compound isolated from Rumex japonicas. A method for isolating 8-O-glucose musizin comprises: a step of extracting dried Rumex japonicas with solvent; a step of filtering the extract and concentrating; and a step of purifying through chromatography. The extraction solvent is methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, ethyleneglycol, THF, DMF, DMSO, or ethyleneacetate. A composition for anti-cancer contains the 8-O-glucose musizin as an active ingredient. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating cancer contains the composition and pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
