A method, system, service selection entity and service management entity for selecting a service provision entity in a peer-to-peer (P2P) network is provided for resolving the technical problem of selecting a heterogeneous service provision entity for a heterogeneous service request entity in the P2P network. The method includes the following steps: receiving the service capability information of the service provision entity; obtaining the service request information from the service request entity; according to the service capability information of the service provision entity and the service request information from the service request entity, selecting the service provision entity having the corresponding service capability in order to provide service to the service request entity. The system includes at least one service provision entity, a service request entity, and a service selection entity. The service provision entity sends its service capability information, the service request entity sends the service request information, and according to the service capability information of the service provision entity and the service request information from the service request entity, the service selection entity selects the service provision entity having the corresponding service capability. The invention can be used in the P2P overlay network.
