The present invention relates to an isolated recombinant dimer derived from internalin B consisting of two polypeptides being covalently linked with each other. In particular, the present invention relates to an isolated recombinant dimer consisting of two polypeptides being covalently linked with each other whereby said polypeptides are derived from the internalin B (InIB) protein and the bonds are located in the LRR domain of said molecule and the monomeric polypeptides are arranged in an anti-parallel orientation. In a further aspect, the present invention relates to nucleic acid molecules encoding said peptides as well as pharmaceutical compositions comprising said peptides forming the dimer or the dimer itself. The dimer is particularly useful for wound healing or tissue regeneration after tissue damage.
