Disclosed is a catalyst for burning a carbon-containing substance, which is produced by conducting a firing step for firing sodalite at 600 DEG C or higher. Specifically disclosed is a catalyst for burning a carbon-containing substance, which is produced by conducting a mixing step, a drying step and a firing step. In the mixing step, aluminosilicate (sodalite) is mixed with a source of an alkali metal element and/or a source of an alkali earth metal element in water to prepare a mixed solution. In the drying step, the mixed solution is heated to evaporate moisture, thereby producing a solid material. In the firing step, the solid material is fired at 600 DEG C or higher. The catalyst enables to burn and remove a carbon-containing substance at a lower temperature and steadily for a long period.
