Method for cleaning a valve (11) mounted in an exhaust gas recirculation circuit (5) of an internal combustion engine tapping off exhaust gases upstream of a turbocharger (2), the valve being equipped with an actuatable obstruction means (12). Cleaning is performed by injecting a liquid into the exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) circuit (5). The liquid injected is an aqueous liquid. Injection takes place into the valve (11) near the obstruction means (12) of the valve (11).
