A process for producing middle distillate useful as a fuel base efficiently at a high conversion of carbon monoxide and a high chain propagation probability (alpha), namely, a process for producing hydrocarbons by conducting the reduction of carbon monoxide by using a catalyst composed of a carrier comprising a metal oxide and zirconium oxide supported selectively on the neighborhood of the outer surface of the metal oxide and at least one metal selected from between cobalt and ruthenium which is supported on the carrier.
