Optical system and method for recognising optical veiling in a vehicle

The method involves capturing images using two optical sensors (9). An obscuration is detected by measuring the grayscale distribution in the images captured by the sensors. The detection of obscuration is controlled by time characteristic and optimized by brightness comparison of images captured by different sensors. A warning annunciation and/or heating of an optical system are initiated when the obscuration is detected. An independent claim is included for optical system.
