1482920 Road surface DUNLOP Ltd 3 Oct 1974 [9 Oct 1973] 47060/73 Addition to 1393885 Heading C3N A road surface comprises a blend of at least two aggregate materials disposed in a binder matrix such as bitumen and having different rates of wear as judged by the aggregate test BS 812 1967, each aggregate material comprising individual aggregate particles of a size such that they will be retained on a British standard “ inch sieve and will pass through a British standard ¥ inch sieve and having a surface micro-texture defined by asperity heights in the range 5 to 500 microns, the individual aggregate particles being disposed in the binder matrix so that the shortest distance between any two adjacent particles is 1 to 6 mm. and the texture depth of the aggregate particles in the binder matrix is 1 to 5 mm. "Asperity heights" is defined as the average vertical height from peak to base of the projections of each aggregate particle and "texture depth" as the vertical distance which each aggregate particle projects above the binder matrix. |
