1443119 Stabilizing polymers CIBA-GEIGY AG 26 Nov 1974 [27 Nov 1973] 51084/74 Heading C3P Polymers are stabilized with mixtures comprising where either R 1 is OH and R 2 is H or R 1 is H and R 2 is OH, R 3 and R 4 are H or alkyl and n is 0 to 2; and where R 5 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl or aralkyl or aryl groups mono-, di- or tri-substitutted by OH, alkyl, chlorine and/or alkoxy groups, alkoxy, cycloalkoxy, aralkoxy, aryloxy or aralkoxy or aryloxy mono- or di-substituted by alkyl, chlorine or alkoxy; R 6 is H or as R 5 ; and m is 0 to 2À5. The polymer may be derived from an olefin, diene, styrene or acrylonitrile, and the mixtures may be used with conventional stabilizers. Examples describe compositions comprising polypropylene, pentaerythritol tetrakis[3 - (3<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP> - di - t - butyl - 4<SP>1</SP> - hydroxyphenyl) propionate and optionally dilauryl thiodipropionate together with mixtures of nickel 4 - hydroxy - 3,5 - di - t - butylbenzoate and nickel ethyl 4 - hydroxy - 3,5 - di - t - butylbenzylphosphonate, nickel butyl 4 - hydroxy- 3,5 - di - t - butylbenzylphosphonate, nickel butyl 2 - ethylhexylphosphonate, nickel ethyl dodeoylphosphonate, nickel butyl octadecylphosphonate, nickel ethyl isopropylphosphonate, nickel dibutyl phosphate, nickel octyl phenyl phosphate, nickel dodecyl phosphite and nickel 4-hydroxy-3,5-di-t-butylphosphinate. |
