The invention relates to a method of treating combustion flue gases by means of seaweed cultures suspended in an aqueous medium, the culture being produced in a reactor exposed to radiation resulting in the growth of seaweed by photosynthesis, in which method the flue gases are passed into the seaweed culture medium in order to dissolve at least some of the CO2 present in these flue gases, the pH of the solution being maintained between 6 and 8, characterized in that the treated flue gases contain at least 50% CO2 by volume.
