PURPOSE: An apparatus for preventing width decrease of a hot rolling finish process and a method thereof are provided to minimize width decrease by increasing acceleration rate of a rolling process and lowering the acceleration rate of the rolling process in case the width of material becomes thin. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus(10) for preventing width decrease of a hot rolling finish process comprises a width decrease sensor(12) and an acceleration rate control unit(13). The width decrease sensor analyzes the difference of widths of materials in which a rolling finish process is completed and senses the width decrease and gives an alarm of width decrease. An acceleration rate control part lowers the acceleration rate of the rolling process in case of the generation of the width decrease.
