PURPOSE: An electron emission element, and a backlight unit of an electron emission type comprising the same, and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to form the optimal interval between electron emission layers, thereby simplifying a process of forming the electron emission layers. CONSTITUTION: A first electrode(120) is formed on a base substrate(110) along a direction. A second electrode(130) is parallely formed on the base substrate along a direction with a fixed interval from the first electrode. A first electron emitting layer(140) is formed in the upper part the first electrode. A second electron emitting layer(150) is formed in the upper part the second electrode. Interval between the first electrode and the second electrode, and interval between the first electron emitting layer and the second electron emitting layer are formed to be substantially equal.
