The device has a wiper arm carriage (4) slidably mounted in a guide rail (6) extending along a side of a window (2) of a motor vehicle. A motorized driving unit (7) drives the carriage along the rail in an alternately sliding manner. A cable (8) is extended at the periphery of the window, and surrounds the window. The cable connects the carriage and the driving unit. The cable co-operates with the carriage and the motorized driving unit such that the cable always acts in tension on the carriage during functioning of the cable.
