PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading system capable of high-speed and uninterrupted reading of a plurality of image document sheets. SOLUTION: A scanner apparatus includes a paper feeding means for feeding a document sheet to a reading platen, a reading sensor for reading a document image, a read control means for performing image reading, a transfer data storage means for storing image data from the reading sensor, and a transfer data control means for controlling this process. A host device includes a receiving means for receiving the image data from a transfer means, a driver program running means for operating the scanner device, a storage device for storing the image data from the scanner device, and a memory control means for controlling the storage device. The driver program running means is configured to store the image data from the receiving means in a memory area set in the storage device. A read control means is configured to control the paper feeding means independently of a read start command from the host device to start the feeding of the second and subsequent document sheets.
