Disclosed are compounds of formula (I) which can be obtained from extracts of Xanthoceras Ssorbifolia, wherein each of R1 and R2 is independently selected from angeloyl, acetyl or a L-rhamnopyranosyl sugar moiety substituted with angeloyl groups at the O-3 and O-4 positions, and R3 is OH or H. Also disclosed is a composition consisting essentially of an amount of a compound as defined above for inhibiting tumor or cancer cell growth, wherein the cancer is ovarian cancer, breast cancer, leukocyte cancer, liver cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer, bone cancer or brain cancer. |
