摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery with a high charge/discharge capacity and an excellent in its cycle property. <P>SOLUTION: The negative electrode material for the nonaqueous secondary battery is composed of conductive powder which has surfaces of particles covered by carbon films, wherein the particles have a structure of crystallites of silicon dispersed in a silica-based compound. In this case, the negative electrode material for the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is composed of the conductive powder in which the half value width of a diffraction peak that belongs to Si (111) in the vicinity of 2&theta;=28.4&deg; is 1.0&deg; or more and powder resistivity is 50 m&Omega; or less in an X-ray diffraction (Cu-K&alpha;) with copper as an anticathode.
