<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape feeder for stably supplying a component by taking a self-diagnosis. <P>SOLUTION: The tape feeder includes a component feed motor for sending a tape containing a component at predetermined intervals. In a state wherein the tape feeder is operable, a time needed for the component feed motor to rotate by a predetermined angle to send one component is detected as a numeral associated with the state of rotation of the component feed motor (S603 to S613). The detected time is compared with a decision value (S615). When the detected time is not within a predetermined range, it is reported that the time needed for the feed motor to rotate by the predetermined time exceeds the decision value (S619).
