<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which brightness is enhanced by improving a part of applying a potential to a pixel electrode. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device 1, a semiconductor layer 14 constituting the channel of a thin-film transistor 12 is arranged on the upper side of a gate line 11 formed of a metallic material and, thereby, a part of the gate line 11 also serves as the gate of the thin-film transistor 12. Further, the liquid crystal display device 1 comprises a pixel electrode 25 and a counter-electrode 21 arranged oppositely to the pixel electrode 25. On the counter electrode 21, a counter electrode hole 22 is formed, and a first contact 15 with which electrical continuity between the thin-film transistor 12 and the pixel electrode 25 is achieved passes through the counter electrode hole 22.
