Provided is an isolated or recombinant oligopeptide that can bind to the heptad repeat sequence(s) HRI and/or HR2 of the NadA adhesin on the surface of a meningococcus, thereby inhibiting the ability of the meningococcus either to infect a host organism or to spread an existing infection, wherein the oligopeptide consists of no more than 50 amino acids and comprises a specified amino acid sequence. Further provided are corresponding nucleic acids encoding the oligopeptide and methods of producing the oligopeptides.
