Disclosed are pyrazolo(3,4-b)pyridine derivatives of formula (I), wherein R1 is hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl group, R2 is an optionally substituted aryl moiety and R3 is hydrogen, or an optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy group. Also disclosed is the use of at least one of the above compounds and/or their physiologically acceptable salts for producing a medicament for the treatment and prevention of chronic heart failure, hypertension, myocardial ischemia and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections, and for the prevention of opiate addiction.
