JUVENILE HORMONE RESPONSE ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a juvenile hormone response element (JHRE) inducing transcription in response to juvenile hormone (JH), methods of assaying and screening JH agonists and antagonists using the JHRE, and a control system for gene expression using the JH agonists and antagonists, and also to provide genes and proteins having high responsiveness to JH as well as uses thereof.

SOLUTION: A sequence (JHRE) having remarkable responsiveness to JH and inducing the transcription of downstream gene in response to JH has been identified. This JHRE shows dose-dependent transcription inducing activity to JH and analogs thereof and allows for using in combination with heterologous promoters. JH inducing expression systems using mammalian animal cells are successfully constituted by using this JHRE. In this way, assaying and screening JH agonists and antagonists using cultured cells are efficiently conducted.
