PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable display device of game machine which is manufactured at a low cost and capable of giving a novel impression to game players with its characteristic movements. SOLUTION: This variable display device includes a symbol display device 76 attached to the front side of the game machine and variably displaying symbols in its front face, a shielding plate 116 circling the circumference of the symbol display device 76 and changing over between a position for covering the symbol display device 76 from the front side to shield the symbols, and a position for separating from the front side of the symbol display device 76 to expose the symbols, an electric drive source 27 for circling the shielding plate 116, and power transmission means 21, 28, 48, and 65 for transmitting the drive force of the electric drive source 27 to the shielding plate 116.
