The device has valve shafts connected with valve plates by a controllable locking device whose control takes places by locking pins and hydraulically, electrically or electromagnetically operable linear actuators. The actuators have actuator elements (2) supported transverse to the shafts/pins at a cylinder head (1). The actuator elements have actuating levers in a plane of the pins. The actuators are arranged in/at the head and are in operative connection with tappets e.g. actuating pins (3), at the actuator elements such that linear movement of the actuators rotates the actuator elements. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting linear actuators with actuator elements.
