Provided is the use, in the preparation of a medicament for inducing a protective immune response in a patient against Staphylococcus aureus infection, of an immunogen comprising a substantially purified polypeptide immunogen comprising a specified amino acid sequence at least 90% identical to the sequence of ORF0657n, wherein said polypeptide provides protective immunity against S. aureus. Further provided are corresponding nucleic acid sequences and methods of making the polypeptide in recombinant yeast cells.
