PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method or a device for notifying, when a user accesses a map hierarchy wherein map information is not organized on the server side, a map hierarchy wherein map information is organized to the user. SOLUTION: The map hierarchy notification method for notifying a map hierarchy of organized map to a terminal network-connected to a server having a storage section includes: a step (S101) for transmitting, from the terminal to the server, position coordinates on a map; a step (S103) wherein the server retrieves a rectangle or a polygon internally containing position coordinates out of the server storing, for each map hierarchy, a plurality of rectangles or a plurality of polygons defining the range of organized map; a step (S105) wherein the server stores the map hierarchy of organized map whose range is defined by the rectangle or the polygon internally containing position coordinates; and a step (S108) for notifying the map hierarchy of organized map from the server to the terminal.
