PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce breakage and variation of thickness which arise in manufacturing, when glass substrates constituting a display element are made thinner. SOLUTION: Two display elements in which a display material is held between a glass substrate and an opposing glass substrate where terminal sections are prepared, and each terminal section is made opposite to each other and held. The glass substrate and the opposing glass substrate are made thinner by mechanical polishing of polishing both faces of the pair of display elements in this holding state. Thereby, the glasses of the display element are stably made thin to the thickness of 0.2 mm or lower, especially to the thickness of 0.1 mm.
