PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a demolition method for a building, which enables the building to be safely and surely demolished as in the case of a traditional Japanese game "Daruma Otoshi", knocking off the blocks from the bottom to the top. SOLUTION: This building demolition method for demolishing the building comprises: a column cutting step of cutting an outer peripheral section near a lower story of a column and an outer peripheral section near an upper story thereof by means of a circular cutting blade while leaving an uncut section in a central section so as to maintain strength resistant to a vertical load; a support temporary-installation step of temporarily installing a support through the use of a jack by inserting the jack between the upper and lower stories supported by the column and performing a jack-up operation, before or after the column cutting step; a column removal step of removing the column by applying a torsional force to the column and destroying the uncut section remaining in the central section; a Daruma-Otoshi step of reducing stories by contracting the jack and bringing the upper layer into contact with the lower one; and a jack take-out step of taking out the jack from a gap which is formed by the contact between the upper and lower stories.
