<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capotasto position determining device for objectively determining an appropriate capotasto position from music data. <P>SOLUTION: An extracting means extracts codes existing in the music data including multiple kinds of codes. A determining means counts the number of extracted codes in the music data and determines the codes corresponding to respective capotasto positions and the number of the codes based on the extracted codes and the number of the codes. A granting means refers to a file for storing string pressing modes corresponding to the codes, and grants points to the codes when the determined codes meet predetermined conditions. A difficulty degree determining means determines the difficulty degrees of the respective capotasto positions, based on the points of the codes granted by the granting means and the number of the codes corresponding to the respective capotasto positions determined by the determining means.
