PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance reliability of a display device by securely preventing moisture from infiltrating into a display function area such as an organic EL film. SOLUTION: The display device 1 is provided with a first substrate 10 with a display function area 11, a protective film 12 covering the display function area 11 of the first substrate 10, a sealing member 13 surrounding a surface 12a and end faces 12b of the protective film 12 on the first substrate 10, and a second substrate 20 bonded through the sealing member 13. The manufacturing method of the display device 1 comprises a process of forming the display function area 11 on the surface of the first substrate 10, a process of forming the protective film 12 so as to cover the display function area 11 on the first substrate 10, a process of covering the surface 12a and the end faces 12b of the protective film 12 with the sealing member 13, and a process of bonding the second substrate 20 through the sealing member 13.
