PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical roller mill wherein its air stream velocity and the distribution of the concentration of particles associated therewith are made more uniform by way of effectively carrying out primary classification, in order to improve the classifying performance of its classifier. SOLUTION: The vertical roller mill 1 includes a housing 2, a feeder 3 for feeding an object to be crushed into the housing 2, a crusher 4 that is disposed in the housing 2 on its bottom and crushes the object to be crushed, a rotary classifier 5 equipped with rotary classifying blades 8 disposed in the housing 2 above the crushing member 4, a transportation mechanism 6 that pneumatically transports the crushed object crushed by the crushing member 4 to the rotary classifier 5, wherein a classifying body 14 having a classifying face for classifying the crushed object in air streams ascending from the crusher 4 to the rotary classifier 5 is disposed between the crushing member 4 and the rotary classifier 5 on the inner wall face of the housing 2.
