<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a counting device for counting objects based on one-dimensional data for obtaining an accurate calculation result while using the one-dimensional data, in order to solve the problem that when an optical data acquisition part of the object is contaminated or madaged, the accuracy of optical data to be acquired by an optical sensor is deteriorated due to the change of the reflectivity of the rays of light, and the accuracy of counting based on the optical data may be deteriorated. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This counting device is configured to output the quantity of a lot of relatively-thin stacked objects such as postcards or envelopes by obtaining optical data in the direction of stacking the objects using an optical sensor along the edge section of the stacked objects, from the optical data.
