<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the luminance of a backlight in an inexpensive configuration by synchronizing a plurality of controller ICs, in a liquid crystal backlight device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A synchronizing pulse forming circuit 30 generates a synchronizing pulse based on a driving pulse generated by a first controlling IC 13 for driving a first switching circuit. A second controlling IC 23 generates a driving pulse for driving a second switching circuit 22 and inputs the pulse to the second switching circuit 22 based on the synchronizing pulse generated by the synchronizing pulse forming circuit 30.
