<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rod-shaped light guide for increasing the light emission quantity of the rod-shaped light guide, and to provide an image reading apparatus using the rod-shaped light guide. <P>SOLUTION: The rod-shaped light guide 26 emits light made incident from an end face to outside from a light emitting surface 32 provided along a longitudinal direction while reflecting the light made incident on the end face on an inner face. The rod-shaped light guide 26 is provided opposite to the light emitting surface 32 and includes: a scattering pattern forming face 35 for scattering light made incident from the end face; a first side 36 and a second side 38 arranged between the light emitting surface 32 and the scattering pattern forming face 35; and a first protrusion 40 and a second protrusion 42 which are provided so that they protrude from the first side 36, and the second side 38, respectively, take in the light reflected by the light emitting surface 32, reflect it towards the light emitting surface 32, and emit it from the light emitting surface 32 to outside. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
