<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retreating and removing method and a retreating device for a travelling work vehicle for cantilever construction which can easily demolish and remove the travelling work vehicle for cantilever construction in an overhanging construction method of a main girder of a diagonal slab bridge, a diagonal tension bridge, an extra-doused bridge, etc. without using a crane dedicated to demolition even under the circumstance where a crane for ground work or a crane for demolition can not be used for the demolition. Ž<P>SOLUTION: After finishing overhanging construction of the main girder A, a temporary rail 21 is arranged on each of both side faces of the main girder A along the main girder. An upper part of a hanging member 22 dedicated to a lower frame arranged separately from the hanging member for a work vehicle main body is fitted to a moving device 23 travelling on the temporary rail 21. The work vehicle main body and the lower frame 1B are separated by detaching the hanging member of the work vehicle main body from each of both end parts of an upper beam to which the upper part of this hanging body is fitted. After that, the work vehicle main body is retreated and moved toward a bridge pier through self-travelling, and the lower frame 1B is retreated and moved toward the bridge pier by the moving device 23.
