Virtual colonoscopy with radiolabeled 18-(4-iodophenyl)-octadecylphosphocholine (NM404)

Disclosed is the use of radiolabelled 18-(4-iodophenyl)-octadecylphosphocholine (NM404) for the manufacture of a radiopharmaceutical preparation for diagnosing cancer in a selected region of the intestinal tract using dual modality virtual colonoscopy in vivo, wherein the radiopharmaceutical preparation is adapted for administration to the subject in conjunction with: the use of computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging to produce a visualisation of the three-dimensional morphology of the selected region suspected of having a malignant tissue; and the use of positron emission tomography or single photon emission tomography to produce a visualisation of the distribution of radioactivity produced by 18-(4-iodophenyl)-octadecyIphosphocholine; wherein the visualisation of the morphology of the selected region is compared to the visualisation of the distribution of the radioactivity produced by the radiolabeled 18-(4-iodophenyl)-octadecylphosphocholine and the presence of radioactivity indicates the malignant tissue.
