<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt replacement unit capable of detecting replacement of the belt replacement unit with a new one, without having to use identification data and of surely performing initial control for only a first time after replacement, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Before an intermediate transfer unit 50 is shipped from a factory, new article mark indicating a new article is applied to the surface of an intermediate transfer belt 51, in advance, with paint in which fine particle powder of silicon removable by a belt cleaning device 24 is dispersed in a volatile liquid. When the new article mark is detected by the existing optical sensor 103 of the image forming apparatus 100 and the intermediate transfer body unit 50 is decided to be a new article, a control section 110 automatically starts initial control. Since the new article mark is removed by the belt cleaning device 24 during the period of the initial control, the mark is not detected by the optical sensor 103, during and after the second start. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
