PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming system capable of measuring and identifying the type of a recording medium with high accuracy by synchronizing an image forming apparatus and an extension paper feeder, thereby stabilizing the position of the recording medium being conveyed. SOLUTION: In the recording medium measurement mode of a recording medium identifying means 118 in the image forming system including the image forming apparatus 100 for forming a toner image on a recording medium by an electrophotographic process and the extension paper feeder 200 extension-connectable to the image forming apparatus, the image forming system synchronizes the operation timing of a first conveying means 66 and the operation timing of a second conveying means 209 by use of a synchronizing means 208 when the recording medium 207 is fed and conveyed from the extension paper feeder to the image forming apparatus, the first conveying means 66 being installed in the image forming apparatus and used for recording medium conveyance and the second conveying means being installed in the extension paper feeder and used for recording medium conveyance.
