<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier frequency error detector that accurately detects a carrier frequency error, enlarges a linear region of a frequency error detection range to quicken the convergence of the correction of the carrier frequency error, and can correct carrier interference widely. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An interpolation coefficient based on an intercarrier interference curve is used for interpolating a pilot carrier in respective interpolation circuits 152, 151 according to a signal ϕ1, where the pilot carrier is demodulated differentially and phase information detected by the differential demodulation is subjected to phase averaging by a phase averaging circuit 13, and a signal ϕ2, where the signal ϕ1 is phase shifted by a π, thus converging a phase only in interpolation by a correct phase, and performing divergence in interpolation by an erroneous phase.
