<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for welding a thermoplastic band which is capable of increasing the pressure of upper and lower bands, maintaining the strong push-down force following the change of the melting degree even when the melting degree of the band is changed, and reliably welding the band without taking time. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the method for welding the thermoplastic band (a) in which overlapping surfaces of upper and lower bands a1 and a2 are melted by the friction thereof and melting them thereby by reciprocating the upper band a1 in the width direction while pressing the upper band a1 by an upper band holder 28, the upper band holder 28 provided on an oscillating block 21 presses the band (a) at a lowered position close to the bottom dead center of an eccentric cam A, the upper band holder 28 at the lowered position is reciprocated in the width direction of the band (a) by an oscillation imparting mechanism 23, overlapping surfaces of the upper and lower bands a1 and a2 are melted by the friction therebetween, and the upper band holder 28 is lowered following the melting degree of the band (a) by the turning elasticity urged by a spring 34 toward the bottom dead center relative to the eccentric cam A.
