The seal has a base material coated with a halogen i.e. fluorine, and comprising a synthetic polymer material i.e. silicone, where the seal is food resistant and/or acid-resistant. The halogen produces a gaseous layer and reacts with the base material. The halogen is formed at a depth ranging from 5 to 10 micrometers in the base material. The seal is temperature and vapor stable for temperature less than 230 degree celsius.
