<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reducing the maximum current consumption of an apparatus body by using a chargeable auxiliary power source and enabling the apparatus body to be continuously used even when the auxiliary power source cannot be used. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a chargeable capacitor module 203, a reader part 30 that can be driven by a drive current from the capacitor module 203, a DC power source 204 that can supply a charge current for the capacitor module 203 and a drive current for the reader 30 and a changeover switch 206 that can supply the drive current from the capacitor module 203 or the DC power source 204 to the reader 30 so that the total power consumption can be reduced by supplying the power necessary for driving the reader 30 from the capacitor module 203.
