PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new azo compound having good solubility in a solvent or its salt. SOLUTION: The azo compound represented by formula (I) or its salt is provided herein. In the formula (I), A denotes a phenyl group having two or more of at least one selected from the group consisting of a halogen atom, a methyl group, a methoxy group, a nitro group, a sulfonic acid group, a sulfamoyl group, and an N-substituted sulfamoyl group or denotes a naphthyl group having one or more of at least one selected from the group consisting of a halogen atom, methyl group, a methoxy group, a nitro group, a sulfonic acid group, a sulfamoyl group, and an N-substituted sulfamoyl group. R<SP>1</SP>denotes a hydrogen atom, a 1-12C aliphatic hydrocarbon group, a 7-20C aralkyl group, or a 6-20C aryl group.
