<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an answering machine message transmission method capable of improving line using efficiency by reducing the data amount of an answering machine message transmitted on a communication line, keeping the data of the message and performing transmission corresponding to the load conditions of the communication line, and to provide a server apparatus used in the method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: While calling an IP telephone set 2 from an IP telephone set 1, the calling time is measured in an SIP server apparatus 3, and when the prescribed time elapses, a success message and a telephone voice guidance are transmitted from the SIP server apparatus 3 to the IP telephone set 1. The answering machine message from the IP telephone set 1 is recorded in the SIP server apparatus 3, and the answering machine message is transferred from the SIP server apparatus 3 to an SIP server apparatus 4 thereafter and is transmitted from the SIP server apparatus 4 to the IP telephone set 2.
