<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recorder which simplifies the setting of power-saving state by including a changeover switch for stopping power supply to peripheral circuits set beforehand among a plurality of peripheral circuits. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When a changeover switch 3 is turned off while a power switch 1 is on, a power-saving control unit 2 performs setting of a normal operating state in which a main power switch 12 and all sub power switches 10 are turned on. When the changeover switch 3 is turned on in the normal operating state, the power-saving control unit 2 performs setting of a first power-saving state in which the main power switch 12 is turned off and at least one of the sub power switches 10 is turned off in accordance with a correspondence table previously stored in a ROM included in the power-saving control unit 2. When the changeover switch 3 is turned off during recording by a recording circuit 18, the power-saving control unit 2 performs the setting of the first power-saving state after waiting until the video recording is completed.
