<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing propylene glycol in a high yield which does not require a step of vaporizing glycerin in the method for producing propylene glycol using glycerin as a raw material. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing propylene glycol comprises a step of catalytically hydrogenating glycerin in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) at least one of copper and copper oxide, (b) an oxide of at least one element selected from the group consisting of barium, chromium, manganese, and aluminum, and (c) at least one element selected from the group consisting of group 2 to group 14 elements in the periodic table (provided that copper, the elements of the (b), and zinc are excluded). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
