PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recorder capable of achieving improvement of reliability of capping operation, and its control method. SOLUTION: The inkjet recorder has an encoder 51, a storage part 53, a difference calculation part 52, a threshold decision part 54, a correction amount calculation part 55, and a control part 50. The storage part stores a capping target position and a threshold. The difference calculation part 52 calculates a difference between a stop position where a carriage stops for capping and the position of the carriage when predetermined time elapses after the carriage stops at the stop position, which are detected by the encoder 51. The threshold decision part 54 compares the threshold with the difference calculated by the difference calculation part 52. When the difference is larger than the threshold, the correction amount calculation part 55 calculates the correction amount of the capping target position.
