<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a horizontal bearing apparatus further simplifying a mounting structure to an upper structure without enlarging the apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The horizontal bearing apparatus includes a laminated rubber body 2 shear-deformed in a horizontal direction to support the horizontal load of the upper structure 1 without supporting the vertical load of the upper structure 1. The laminated rubber body 2 is formed by laminating intermediate steel plates 23 and rubber layers 24 alternately between an upper steel plate 21 and a lower steel plate 22 and integrally forming them. The upper face of the upper steel plate 21 is protrusively provided with a key plate 12 with its upper part longer in horizontal length than its lower part and with a step part formed between the upper part and the lower part. An upper shoe 13 fixed to the lower face of the upper structure 1 and formed with an engaging part engaged with the step part of the key plate 12 is constituted to be engaged with the step part of the key plate 12 in a state of having an expansion gap between the upper steel plate 21 and the key plate 12.
