<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly efficiently confirm captured images in a monitoring area. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A monitoring system 1 is provided with: an image capturing means 2 for capturing images in a predetermined monitoring area; a storage means 3b for compressing the images captured by the image capturing means 2 and storing the images in a plurality of frame groups Gn composed of a predetermined number of frames ; a difference calculating means 4a for selecting at least one reference frame group Gnx from among the plurality of frame groups Gn stored in the storage means 3b, and calculating each of file size differences δn between each of the plurality of frame groups Gn and the reference frame group Gnx; and a reproduction control means 4b for reproducing the frame groups Gn stored in the storage means 3b.
