A base layer is first applied to a wall or floor, and is followed by prefabricated panels of wt. sufficient to resist lifting by vapour pressure developed above the substrate. Finally the panels are overlaid by a coating of plastic material. Pref. the base layer is a plastics material, bitumen or concrete and the panels are plastics mortar. The panel surfaces may be reactive with the upper and lower layers for bonding, or the upper surface may be decorated as by printing, when the upper coating layer is a transparent scratch-proof plastic. The covering is applied to walls, and to floors, terraces or flat roofs, partic. in wet rooms such as swimming baths, kitchens, breweries and dairies. It provides a long lasting moisture-impervious coating which is resistant to damage both external and that due to vapour pressure developed at the substrate interface, e.g. due to effect of temp. rise on wet concrete. |
